Chorus:
(Poetry by Bahar, Translated from Farsi original by Salome MC)
It is a mistake to talk to the Shah of Iran about freedom
Iran’s fate is in God’s hands
The Shah of Iran has a special religion of his own
Iran’s fate is in God’s hands
King is drunk, elder is drunk, governor is drunk, commander is drunk
The destiny of the country is out of our hands now
Each moment the hands of drunken people bring intrigue and turmoil
Iran’s fate is in God’s hands
Verse 1:
I got things to say that are stuck in my throat like a “haraam bite”
Like the temporary marriages of the officials, hidden behind curtains
Like a political prisoner in solitary confinement
What I am going to say is suicidal, whether concrete or abstract
I haven’t seen the revolution, but my rap is revolutionary
This pen is my weapon, and I got my burial shroud in my backpack
Don't laugh, I know I got a lot to lose… I am an ordinary girl too after all.
But have you ever been looking for answers in the street?
Have you ever put a camera under your hijab (veil) to record the truth?
Yeah, sometimes we are ready to lose our freedom,
To protect our liberty and the meaning of our existence
The feeling of desecration… Trying to get rid of the darkness…
Spontaneous and powerful …. Independent from the government…
and I do not mean the 2009 post election crack-down, no…
I mean September 1980 to August 1988:
My father on the frontline, my mother in the milk-line...
for our ration of milk in the city center of Tehran
The bitter air raid siren, and our countrymen fighting to their last drop of blood
Sometimes with a klashinkof, sometimes with a rock…!
That is what’s called pure intentions, not the super/inferiority complex of a few embassy raiders!
Thousands of protestors were called “dirt and dust” (by Ahmadinejad, 2009)
But a hundred non-students were the emotional and pure ones? (As called by Alaa’ddin Borujerdi)
Chorus:
The country is a ship, the events is the sea and the dictatorship is a dust
The captain is the justice
Protecting the ship and the voyagers is the captain’s job
Iran’s fate is in God’s hands
The king calls himself a Muslim and still spills…
…the blood of innocent people
How can this kind of cruelty be justified in Islam?
Iran’s fate is in God’s hands
Verse 2:
We were hoping for reforms,
because that is how revolutions work:
We can move towards democracy with elections
From extremism to moderation
From blind faith to comprehension
From fossilization to real advancement and independence
Freedom of speech and freedom of belief
without interfering in others’ personal space
Education with no national, religious, tribal, racial and language bias
But the time passed and the eyes of mothers got full of tears
in the war of 80s and in the chain-murders of 90s,
Until on one black-Friday it happened …
Our hand of election got cut…
Our enthusiasm went away…
We were already called devil-worshippers, and now we are “rioters” too
Political imprisonments, embezzlements, inflation, and supporting Bashar Assad? Gotta be kidding me!

Outro:
(the rest of the speech)
This person, will justify any means to reach his goals…
He lies, he deceives, he swears to God: `I am the most compassionate for you.`
But in reality, he is the most stubborn, most hateful of all people.
Before he gets power in his hands, he makes promises… Once he gets it, he will have no mercy.

As if in the parliament they represent us, this is a little play they are all acting in...
They killed our joy of freedom and even the body is getting mutilated...

And it is against all religions to treat a sheikh or a human as a divine god…
And the leader of the Muslim brothers doesn’t have any official political authority…
So his orders, they can apply to you but not ME!
You will not force your ideas...and you will not steal my land…
And your whole majority vote is illegal like the Watany party (Mubaraks old party and former majority voted party)
You need to separate religion from politics
The revolution is re-starting on the liars of politics and religion…

Lay down your weapons, Open your hearts, No more fighting, We are one
Come on, join us once and for all, let’s be honest, let’s be true
Join the force of love and see, what’s in there waiting for you!
Even in the wrestling rings, our men tend to tolerate
Barefooted, with a waist-cloth, wrestling men of the same weight
You walk with your kneeguards; carrying chains and clubs, wearing a mask
Well done brother, what a champ! Is that what you call bravery I ask?
It’s easy to strike and brake, kill and burn, destroy and chase
I guess God can’t recognize a properly hidden face!
Come on, join us once and for all, let’s be honest, let’s be true
Join the force of love and see, what’s in there waiting for you!
Go on hit and kill, let’s see how long it takes,
Before your betrayed heart, melts down and brakes!
Let’s see when your hands will feel ashamed of your own zeal
Let’s see when your betrayed soul will wake up and start to heal
Don’t worry, you too are the "dust and mote" of this land
Unmask your face, see the light, see the truth and take my hand
Feel the compassion, unity calls at this hour
The power of love is higher than the love of power!
Come on, join us once and for all, let’s be honest, let’s be true
Join the force of love and see, what’s in there waiting for you!

We stand together in solidarity and in the name of human rights for all people. Regardless of our religious or political beliefs, every one of us shares a desire for justice and fairness for all. To our Iranian sisters and brothers, you are not alone. We will not forget, or stop caring. We have heard your voices. We are with you.

Verse 1:
I never seen a man cry 'til that man died, nothing starts something like _ with a man's pride, the children arrive from rushing to the bedside, of my father's demise in 1975. He had love for his people and told them, the Shah was a puppet and their wealth had been stolen, And then pops bled at the mercy of captors, with tricks they had learned from their American masters. As his voice quivered, blood bubbled up in his throat, Pops took me by the wrist and pledged me to an oath, "Swear to take it to the streets in the face of the beast, and help put this people's Revolution up on its feet." And so we moved in silence and quietly we organized, psychological war, a battle for the people's minds, In control, nothing's left to chance, Ayatollahs sent us underground cassettes from France. We began to seize power and the youth grew proud, declaring in one voice that we'd no longer allow, that these Anglos and pawns control our home, and brought forth the demise of the Peacock Throne.
Chorus:
My brother, I suffered, I led for my people, Thought, I fought, I bled for my people, Weep, I grieve, I mourn for my people, Until we are free, I’m at war for my people, Soldiers don’t hide, I ride for my people, Anything to restore the pride for my people, Screaming to the sky, I cry for my people, Knowing one day I may die for my people.
Verse 2:
No sooner we completed our mission, the Americans had a new lap dog in position, and since their puppets and pawns were chased from Iran, they found a neighboring tyrant by the name of Saddam. And then, knowing he had an itch for aggression, Ronald Regan gave him intelligence and chemical weapons, he decided to sponsor a conquer and divide, Create simultaneous genocides. Pit tribe against tribe, brother on brother and laugh and these stupid sand ni##ers killing eachother, And now Ronnie can't believe what a deal he bought, 1 million dead bodies, 8 years we fought. Then I learned from my mother when I visited home, they recruited my little brother all of 12 years old, I had heard the horror stories about the youth program, and how they trained them in government brainwash camps. They put a man on a white horse with shrouds and his weapon drawn, and told the boys it was the 12th Imam, Gave them plastic keys to paradise, and said that Allah was waiting to welcome them in the next life. But these kids weren't soldiers, they were used as shields, they sent my brother running in front to clear a mine field, now this monster we created I plainly saw, was something much more evil than what came before.
(Chorus)
Verse 3:
We had paid in blood and received no dividends, people were suffering, women were second-class citizens, I asked myself, "Is this what I fought for? What I sent my brother to his grave and gave up my Pops for?" I spoke to the youth of how the movement began, how we did for God and country and feared of no man, and I began to plant the seeds for next generation, to seize back the power from those that betrayed them. Then Feds kicked in my front door, the Pasdars put me on the floor, they had learned of my plans in advance and sent me, to a jail cell next to Ahmad Batebi. Not a damn thing changed after all these years, 16-e-Azar shod 18-e-Tir, and my dying thought lying in the Evin prison, "Absolute power is its own religion."

Khosh amadid, this is a story of a woman caught between her country and her truth
Khosh amadid, this is a story of a man who fought just for his right to speak
Zahra, may all your children find their way back home
Mama, please help the hearts of those who've set themselves upon us
And in this darkest night, may we pray for light behind the eyes of those who've brought about this darkest night, may we pray for light behind their eyes
Khosh amadid, this is a story of a mother, she is searching for her son
and do you feel all her mourning, over the ocean many miles yet her story is our own
Khosh amadid, this is for freedom
How can we stand and watch out children be slain for honesty in the name of God, in the name of life for every brother, sister, standing for the right to be free

On the surface the society seems tranquil, at peace, but before a major storm. For no one can keep a society silent with the threat of bullets, at the point of a gun, or through the threat of punishment and prison.

Iran stood up in her frigid room
Save for her and her pain no one else was there
This too is a day like any other
But they say that people live on hope
Iran went out the door so she could go
By the reflecting pool, in a park of memories
They say there is a place in town
Where wishes pass from hand to hand
There is a place with memory of an intimacy
There is a place where hope always lives
Iran, Iran all alone
Iran, Iran all alone
Far, far away something glistened
She saw a coin among the yellow violets
She picked up the old coin and tossed it in the pool
She knew this also could just be a delusion
She smiled and kept on going
There is a place where a wish, an intimacy
There is a place where hope always lives

People we are gifted/ in a country (South Africa) where all Faiths are uplifted/ that's coz we free to believe as Baha'is/ but to preach love is regarded as a crime back from where it started/ Iran/ a land with no freedom to be kind/ where human rights are/ suppressed by the clergy wise/ it all started with love/ ended with hate/ now I sing their struggle for everyone to relate/ hold hands with me/ let us all work for global unity/ in the eyes of God we are all one cuz/ so keep shining your light until this injustice is undone
After the night of separateness, rises the sun of unity / Through the dark of injustice, forgiveness lights a path for me / Though we've been wronged, hindered, scarred, the past remains a memory, and if we choose now unity it ignites and lays a legacy...
We need guidance to shake off the shadows of self / rise above the afflictions imposed by someone else / and this strength can only be attained through God / and so we pray...
We are grateful for this opportunity to live in peace and realize unity,
so we lift our hearts to the centre of our very being,
and we pray... so we pray... and so we pray...
Siyabonga (Thank you) / All the struggles we have been through (Its not over, the struggle is not over!) / We live in Unity (together as one)
and freedom is here
I need someone to speak to / someone i can pour my heart to / this pain cuts me deep i need / somewhere i can run to!
I heard somebody scream/ dream without fear/ cos once upon a time we were never here/ i feel it in the air/so many questions/ but so little answers given/ on the road to redemption/ unify the black and the white now all is forgiven/ tata siyabonga (father we thank you) you fought for our freedom/ now i can write it on the walls/ hear it in my speech man see it in my walk/you fought for change no matter how cruel the cashier stayed/ we were never there 'fele ga ritla re lebala'(we will never forget) grasp on the future/city to city we spread the word of unity leave a trail of sublimity where ever i be/ 'aluta continua' (struggle continues) as we strive for peace

Halleluyah
Put down your guns and set your prisoners free
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
On that day, your people will sing
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
I’m not free until your free
Your not free until I’m free
We’re not free until they’re free
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
Cast off those clothes and throw em in the fire
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
Now let’s dance, cause we’re not afraid
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
I’m not free until your free
Your not free until I’m free
We’re not free until they’re free
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
Their walls are ignorance, their people will fight em
Halleluyah, it’s your turn
They’d better pack their bags cause the future is green
Halleluyah, it’s your turn

glowing beneath this delicate shell of a man
you've centered yourself
and drawn up the sides of your square
a full masquerade
bravo but they were never there

it's hard for the little ones
hard for the little ones
hard for the bigger ones too
turn and face the sun
that part which makes you human
turn and face the sun
you pity the man you think has got nothing at all
pity the man if you want you can't touch what's inside
if you believe enough for me
isn't there enough for you

Fire burns in the grass, in the homeland at night, purple flowers' blood
You, my exiting exclaim, are flame bound until sunrise

Because a storm has arrived in the blood of fatigues and heartbreaks
Look into the future, the storm is rising up

Freedom's smile, and happiness rises up at sunrise

The pigeon will fly again to the homeland

It has flown all night, a branch to its lips, red and pollinating
It flies, spreading pollen, growing seeds, rising the spring up

I saw you marching through the streets
I saw you bleed, I saw you bleed
But your voice, your call will never die
Nor will the vision in your eyes
Your voice, your call for freedom
It echoes through us all and amplifies
We watched from six thousand miles away
As you marched through the street so very brave

5) English
Now in a cell, torture and imprisonment
But in the city of beauty, waiting for you to come back
At the age of 12
I went toward destiny, my fight was against ignorance
And the fact that there is no peace
Punishment for seeking freedom is being slandered, accused of “enmity against God”
7) English
Towards the horizon

Reconstruction of country needs contribution from all progressive forces, without any prejudice based on their gender, ethnicity and religion. It also needs a healthy political atmosphere, and this is only possible with (by) democracy, again democracy, democracy for ever.

Fate lead us to oblivion, we were predestined
Wandering the globe aimlessly like dust in the wind
At last the bullies turned us into their mere plaything
They took our freedom, took our home, they took everything
So much for that president of the state of coup d'état
Remaining in power by the force of basij and sepah
He goes place to place, leaving nothing but disgrace ...
... speaking nonsense with no shame, and we, the people, take the blame
We didn't know what was coming ... how did it all begin?
They fooled us all, in the name of god and religion
Where shall we seek refuge from these murderers and thieves?
Black gold in their pockets, 'n blood drips from their sleeves
Our heritage went to waste, we did not foresee
Where are you! Where are you! DehKhoda! Ferdowsi!
How long shall we grieve to tunes of sorrow and sadness?
How long shall our colorful hearts be filled with total blackness?
We were lead by destiny to war and poverty ...
... to pain and suffering, misfortune and adversity
Our heroes lost their lives in hopes of a free Iran
Sohrab, Taraneh, Mohammad, Fatemeh, Mostafa, Neda and Ashkan ...
We hope to one day be rid of these heartless bullies
What have we done wrong to deserve such cruelties and brutalities?
Tell me why! Why did we get inflicted with this omen?
Why can't anyone answer this rhetorical question?
Chorus:
If this is our final fate, what's there to be done?
anything but to moan the whole night away, to groan all night long
If this is our final fate, what's there to be done?
anything but to moan the whole night away, to groan all night long

Sofar - The Green Story

30 years ago, in a cold winter, when the pain of injustice was at its highest
Old and young, men and women, a generation carried out a revolution
For freedom, against discrimination, from Qom, Tehran, Bam and Tabriz
People were together and in unity, the Shah could not go on anymore
Then Shah went and Mullahs took his place, again the same freezing blast, the same pain and suffering, that exhausted the nation for thirty years
They thought that everything was going to be wonderful, and all of expenses were going to be paid by the state
A guy came from Paris (Khomeini) and held a speech, threatening the government with a fist
He said: the money taken by state for electricity, water and fuel was going into the packets of Shah
But now, the money is for you, My compatriots, Let’s build the country together, he said
Two or three years later, when they mastered in how to exploit and rule the people,
Members of political parties who had given sacrifices for their homeland, murdered one by one in prison
These savages started a massacre, corps and martyrs were amassed on top of each other
My fellow-countryman, if you stand up today, tomorrow will be ours
If you are just one droplet of rain, sea will be ours
Let’s heal the land, which is ours
My fellow-countryman, be green, Iran will be ours
Not only the “Oil money” was not distributed among population, they become much more economically weaker
Then we came to 2009, when the idea of reform again found place in people’s minds
This time Akbar and Khatami, supported Mousavi and Karoubi
They all stood on the side of people, so that together we get rid of pains
Election made people happy, the smell of freedom and liberty in the air
Suddenly the whole Iran became green, people were extremely tired of status-quo
All together against the evil demon, the green color formed lines before the Ballot Boxes
On Friday, June.12, Mousavi promised
That if they cheat in the election, he will stand and fight until the end
In the dark Sunday, the factitious ballot boxes became opened one by one
Sadegh (Mahsouli), Ezzat (Zarghami) and Mojtaba(Khamenei) tampered with our votes
Our green votes were ignored; they read them as black while we were staggered

lt's a silence the lonely know
in the fire the rainbow grows
you can push it down my friend
it will come up ten fold again
we will erase your name, we will show no restraint
how much blood must be shed
on the streets of unrest
we will bleed as long need be
that river will remove you from history
we will erase your name, we will show no restraint
you have robbed us for many years
but we have saved every last tear
we have suffered all of your hate
and now we march down to your gates
we will erase your name, we will show no restraint
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name
you think your power is secure
when you startle us with the threat of war
but fear has its limits too
we are no longer scared of you
we will erase your name, we will show no restraint
we will burn your temple to the ground
we will tear all your prisons down
your gallows will be set for burning
just before one last hanging
we will erase your name, we will show no restraint
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name
now we give you one last chance
to do what's right and to let us dance
or the hand of fate will become a fist
a force your thugs can not resist
The fields where soldiers practice their killing
can be a spread of green grass
where the boisterous rainbow children may dance
while the one who beams with
ultimate command
will merely be a smile
(Written by Shamloo)
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name
Freedom, Glory, Be Our Name

During recent years we have seen that with all of the security measures being enforced on universities, and suffocation and the drastic repression inside universities, today university is still alive and this stronghold of freedom is continuing to host the voice of students and their cry and struggle for freedom and liberty.
